Book Chapters

Group 2 This is Elizabeth Mata with Group 2 and I was nervous with working with a group when beginning this class. I have had a good experience with my group completing our first presentation.  Our group was assigned chapters 4, 5, 6, and 8 from our textbook, and these chapter provided a lot of great  information to help us start this class off. To me giving a speech is always something I find nerve racking but getting the chance to work with my group to prepare for our speech while learning about these topics definitely helped me feel more prepared for this class. I took the role of presenting chapter 7 units 4,5,6. Chapter 7 is about supporting your ideas when giving a speech. It was a surprise to learn all the different ways that you can support your ideas when giving a speech. I came to realize that I personally have been swayed by some of these tactics. Although I enjoyed learning about my chapter assigned to me, working as a grou...

ELIZABETH MATA : ELECTIONS MATTER

I will be reviewing the very important topics that we covered in these past classes. These topics  we covered were very eye opening for me and I hope it was not just me that these presentations helped. The topics for this presentation are things that will be or are already being affected by the upcoming elections. These topics were education policies, gender equality, immigration policies, and the electorate and the election process. For this group assignment I was a bit nervous to present because these topics can be difficult to discuss without being biased. Out of all the topics I would have personally liked to dive into the educational policies due to some personal beliefs but another group got to it first. My group ended up being the last to choose a topic and we ended up with the electorate and the election process. Of all the topics this was the one I least wanted to cover due to it being a confusing topic for me. My part of the presentation was “America vs. The World”. While...

Election Matter Daniel L

Election Matters: The Electorate and the Election Process As I reflect on our group's experience in the "Elections Matter" project, I must admit that I had mixed feelings about it from the very beginning. Daniel Liendo, when Professor Sinkoff first announced that we would be delivering presentations on election related topics, I was excited at the prospect of delving into such an important and timely issue. However, that excitement quickly turned to apprehension when I realized the scope of the project  not only would we have to deliver a presentation, but we also had to create a brochure and organize a special event. I must confess that I am not as passionate about politics as some of my classmates, and the thought of having to research and discuss the intricacies of the electoral process made me a bit uneasy. Nonetheless, I was determined to approach the project with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Our group was tasked with exploring the topic of "The Elec...

Fabian Ramos and Mia Garcia-Second Presentation: Elections Matter

(Fabian) Hi everyone. Fabian here again. In this second and sadly, last blog post of this incredible class, I will tell you about our second presentations that were based on our special project called: Elections Matter.  I have to admit that when at the beginning of the semester Professor Sinkoff announced that we would have some presentations about the elections, I was very excited since I am very passionate about politics, and being able to talk about this in a class and have it been a part of my grade caused me to be happy. However, when I started hearing that it was not only a presentation but also a brochure and special event, my happiness went down a little, I started to think “How will I make that brochure?” and I was also thinking “What exactly is this famous special event?” I was wrong, these presentations and all the activities that went along with them were extremely amazing. Although the main topic was Elections Matter, there were subtopics which were gender equality, e...

Daniel Liendo

Hey everyone, Daniel here! I'm excited to share my experience with our recent group presentations in Public Speaking class. It's been quite a journey, and I've learned so much from both my group's presentation and those of my classmates. Our group was assigned chapters 4, 5, 6, and 8 from our textbook, covering a wide range of topics related to speech preparation and delivery. I was in charge of presenting on conducting research interviews, evaluating research materials, recognizing and avoiding plagiarism, and connecting ideas with transitions. My teammates covered other crucial aspects like developing purpose and topic, brainstorming ideas, evaluating and selecting topics, preparing for research, using specialized search engines, organizing speech content, and supporting ideas. What I loved about our presentation was how we managed to break down complex topics into digestible chunks. We used a mix of visuals, examples, and interactive elements to keep our audience eng...

Group 2 Blog Hey Blog My name is Mia Garcia I am so excited to be in the online class of Professor Sherri Sinkoff's public speaking. This has been quite a change for me, as I haven't taken an online course since 2020. The new skills that came with the adaptation to the online format included virtual group collaboration, executing tasks without physical meetings, and online presentations. Although it has not been easy, I see it as a good learning experience that further develops my studies and personal growth. Nothing was easy about the transition; it has been really great since it's now the fourth week.i was put into a break out room the ...

Fabian Ramos-First Presentation: Book Chapters

Hi everyone, my name is Fabian Ramos, and in this first blog, I will explain to you a little bit about our first round of presentations in this amazing class.  To begin this adventure of presenting in the Public Speaking Class, Professor Sinkoff divided us into 5 groups, and then she proceeded to assign each group their topic for the presentation. In the process of forming the groups, I was nervous because it was my first time working with a group since I entered Miami Dade College, and it would be in a virtual class. However, I must admit that my group was very helpful and full of good people. I felt very good working with them on this presentation and also felt relieved that I had a good group for the rest of the semester. For this first presentation, each of our groups was assigned different chapters from the book Cengage-Public Speaking: The Evolving of Art.  My group was in charge of chapters 4, 6, 7, and 8. We were undecided about whether to do the visual presentation in...
